GASSHUKU is an important part of the japanese tradition – not only in terms of Karate. Gasshuku (jap. 合宿) means the joint practicing, learning and studying towards a specifically set goal. Master and students gather together at a defined place outside of regular school areas at a certain time. This tradition goes back to the learning ideals of Confucius. The basic idea is to strengthen the sense of community, by learning from each other. The crucial factor is not the individual talent, but the „sincere effort“ that applies to the individual. The Gasshuku is therefore part and expression of the Japanese educational society. Also in the discipline of Karate the best karateka worldwide meet once a year to jointly celebrate with students willing to learn this sport.
From 29.7. -2.8.2013 the GASSHUKU 2013 is hosted by the two Karate-Clubs:
Dieburg (KARATE-Verein Dieburg e.V.) and Wald-Michelbach.
Organizer: Gasshuku e.V.
Locally organized by: KARATE-Verein Dieburg e.V. and JKA-Karate Wald-Michelbach
Location: 69483 Wald-Michelbach/Odenwald (Hessen)
Date: 29.07. – 02.08.2013
About Wald-Michelbach in the Odenwald (Hessen)
Wald-Michelbach is located in the heart of the Odenwald and, with its numerous recreational opportunities an attractive ambience to all visitors.
The proximity to the river Neckar with its boat trips to Heidelberg, the ivory museum in Erbach, the alpine slide, the Draisinenbahn, the swimming pool, as well as the scenic attractive location make Wald-Michelbach a destination that has a lot to offer to all karateka this week. The preparations of the organizers are already in full swing. There will be a marquee with a varied evening program, and visitors will also be well catered for all tastes.
Like at each Gasshuku, except when it takes place in a big city, the karateka must stay in the surrounding area, as not all can stay in the main district of Wald-Michelbach. But here the Odenwald, with its numerous hotels, inns and guesthouses offers a wide range of choices.
Here you will find the latest hotel and accommodation directory, as of 01/29/2013

We will offer a Hessian type Gasshuku. There will be, among other typical Hessian specialties, „Handkäs mit Musik“ (sour milk cheese, for „cheese with music“ the mature cheese is placed some time in a marinade of diced onions with oil and vinegar, cumin, pepper and salt) and Äppelwoi (wine made of Apples).
In Gasshuku Centre (tent) an entertainment program is offered every evening. A DJ is going to power up the music, some Odenwälder dialect singers will perform, and many more, until the GASSHUKU ends with the big final party.
For children there will be a bouncy castle and a craft tent with childcare. All moms and dads amongst the participants are welcome to support.
So all participants, in addition to the GASSHUKU Karate experience, can spend a nice vacation week with their families in our Odenwald.
You can also purchase a T-Shirt with the Gasshuku 2013 logo for 5 Euros at the booth of Kamikaze (sports apparel). Simply show your participation card.
